Slow is the point
In short

Yin yoga is a slow, meditative style in which postures are held for several minutes to release the fascia, joints and deep tension. In Chiang Mai, NiyamaHome offers private Yin classes at your home, villa or hotel with Nicha, a Yoga Alliance-certified teacher trained in Thai massage — 75 minutes, up to six people, THB 2,500.

What Yin yoga is

Most yoga is active: you move, you build heat, you work the muscles. Yin goes the other way. Postures are mostly on the floor and are held for minutes rather than breaths, with the muscles soft. The stretch travels deeper — into connective tissue, fascia and joints — and the long stillness has a strong calming effect on the nervous system.

Who it is for

  • People who sit for long hours — remote workers, long-haul travellers
  • Runners, trekkers, climbers and anyone with tight hips and hamstrings
  • Anyone carrying stress, poor sleep or a mind that won't switch off
  • Experienced students who want to balance a strong Vinyasa practice
  • Beginners who prefer to start slowly

Why private Yin is different

In a group Yin class you hold a posture and hope it is right for you. In a private class, Nicha chooses each shape for your body and supports it — with props, with her hands, with the exact amount of time you need. Nicha is a Thai yoga teacher certified by Yoga Alliance (200-hour) and trained in traditional Thai massage. She has taught for over a decade — first in Pai, then in Chiang Mai, and for several years in Bali, where most of her students were private clients.

Her massage background makes Yin a natural fit: she can add gentle pressure or an assisted stretch where your body is holding on, so the release goes further than you would reach alone. If you want to go all the way into receiving, try a Thai Yoga Massage.

Questions, answered honestly

What is Yin yoga good for?

Yin is especially good for releasing deep tension in the hips, back and legs, improving mobility and calming the nervous system — which often helps with stress and sleep.

Is Yin yoga suitable for beginners?

Yes. The postures are simple and mostly on the floor, and in a private class each one is adapted to you.

How long are the holds?

Usually from one to five minutes, depending on the posture and your body.

Is Yin the same as restorative yoga?

They are related but different: Yin gently stresses the deep tissues with long holds, while restorative yoga uses props to support the body in complete rest. A private class can include both.

Where are the classes?

At your villa, condo, house or hotel in Chiang Mai, within roughly 30 minutes; further out with a travel supplement.

Let the body take its time.
